Backgammon Rules > Backgammon Rules for Beginners

Anyone can play backgammon. It is a simple board game that offers simple backgammon rules for beginners. The main objective of the game is to get all the checkers past the opponent's pieces and off the board. Here are some basic backgammon rules for beginners:

The backgammon game is played on a board with 24 triangles called points. These points are of 2 colors which are grouped into 4 designated areas of 6 points each and are marked for each player starting at the player's home board. The 24th point is the outermost point. The backgammon rule states that the starting position is 5 checkers on each of the player's 6th point, 3 on each of the player's 8th point, 5 on each of the player's 13th point, and 2 each of the player's 24th point.

After moving all your 15 checkers to your home board, you can start bearing off immediately. You bear off a checker placed on a point that matches with the value shown on the dice and remove it off your backgammon board. If you are able to bear off before your opponent, you win the game.

Now that you know the backgammon rules for beginners, you can now start playing backgammon and start on your way to becoming a professional backgammon player!
