Before you start playing a backgammon game, you must first know the backgammon starting position or the arrangement of the checkers at the start of a game. Each player has 2 checkers on the opponent's one-point, 5 checkers on the mid-point, 3 checkers on the eight-point, and 5 checkers on the six-point. Every time you play online backgammon, the starting position of the checkers are the same. Keep in mind though that this is only for the standard backgammon games. The other variants of backgammon use different backgammon starting position. In acey-deucey, one of the backgammon variants, the game starts with a totally blank board. The players begin acey-deucey with no checkers on the board. You do not have to worry then about the starting position of your checkers. When you are starting to play the game, remember that the first player to move all 15 of his checkers from their backgammon starting position off the board wins the game.
